Admissions Policy

ST. KENELM’S SCHOOL ADMISSIONS POLICY

The school has to follow the County’s Admissions Policy. School places are allocated by the County and the school has no control over which children they admit.

The County will admit the child of any parent who requests a place provided the child is of school age as defined in the County Guidelines and the school has a place.

Under the admissions guidelines, the County might find itself having to refuse a child admission where numbers in the child’s year group exceed the Planned Admission Limit of 20 children.

Where there are more children applying for places in a year group than there are places, then the County will allocate places in the following priority:-

  1. Children who live in the catchment area and have a brother or sister in school.
  2. Children who live in the catchment area.
  3. Children who live outside the catchment area and have a brother or sister in school.
  4. Children who live outside the catchment area.

In any of the above categories, proximity to school will be the final decider.

RECEPTION ADMISSION ARRANGEMENTS.

Children are eligible to start school full-time the September after their fourth birthday, if their parents wish. Compulsory education begins in the term after a child’s fifth birthday. This is in accordance with the policy of the Oxfordshire Education Authority.

At St. Kenelm’s School, Autumn born children must start full-time at the beginning of the Spring term. Spring born children must start full-time at the beginning of the Summer term and Summer born children must start full-time in the September after their 5th birthday.
