Emergency Closure

In the event of bad weather conditions or an unforeseen emergency, (eg. boiler failure), it may be necessary to close the school. In snowy or icy conditions, staff can set out for school but find the roads impassable. The school is seldom shut after the first day of snow even if the Burford school bus is not running. Please do not keep your child at home just because the secondary school is shut.
In the event of school closure, parents will be sent a text alert. Subsequent updates will continue to be sent via text until the school re-opens. Please ensure you inform the school if you change your mobile number to ensure you receive these texts.
School closures will be announced on BBC Radio Oxford on VHF/FM 95.2. It will also be put on the Oxfordshire County Council website: www.oxfordshire.gov.uk. Go to the home page and snow closures show under the 'Education & Families' heading.
If there is any doubt, please do not leave children at school until you have checked that your child’s teacher is there. A board will be placed at the main school entrance to say that the school is closed.
When there is snow, or the likelihood of snow, please try to send your child in wellington boots. Even if they do not have boots always make sure they have a change of shoes and socks and a spare carrier bag for their outdoor shoes or boots to stand in.
